Released in '64 on The Times They Are A Changin'. About the murder of black civil rights activist and local SNCC leader Medgar Evers on the driveway of his home in Jackson, MS. Introduced on a Freedom Riders hootenanny in Greenwood, MS, where killer Byron De la Beckwith came from. Dylan also sang it during his short set in Washington DC at the same Civil Rights rally Dr. King made his famous I have a dream speech (July 6, 1963). That version came out on Through The Open Window - Bootleg Series Vol 18 ('25).
