The former a textile worker and pioneer hillbilly singer, the latter a near-blind fiddler (see also: Tom Dooley, Handsome Molly, Cluck Old Hen, Train #45, Nine Pound Hammer and Wreck Of The Southern Old 97. Whitter wasn't the world's best country singer, but made anyone else start thinking: "I can do that", validating his position in music history.
