Artist: Nina Simone

Label: Philips
Year: 1964

On Broadway Blues Ballads. Written by arranger/conductor Horace Ott in the slipstream of a dispute with his girlfriend Gloria Caldwell: "I'm just a soul who's intentions are good, oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood". He figured out some music to go with it and passed it on to composers duo Bennie Benjamin & Sol Marcus to finish the job. As Ott and Benjamin/Marcus were members of rival copyright organisations, Ott gave Gloria the credits, soon to become his wife.
