At the Baden-Baden Festival in Das Songspiel Mahagonny as Jessie and Bessie respectively. Das Songspiel Mahagonny's success inspired the authors to expand the formula, recycling the songs in full opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (1930). Lotte Lenya was coauthor Kurt Weill's widow. Her first recording was with the Theo Mackeben Jazz Orchestra in February 1930 for Ultraphon; the following month recut for Homocord.
