NOW I'VE GOT A WITNESS (LIKE UNCLE PHIL AND UNCLE GENE)

Created on 08/08/2006

Artist: Rolling Stones
Author: Nanker/Phelge
Label: Decca
Year: 1964

Nanker/Phelge was an alias for the five Stones and their manager Andrew Loog Oldham. Gene & Phil are Gene Pitney (on tour in England at the time) and Phil Spector (his Ronettes opened the show for the Stones). This session (landing them Not Fade Away on top) was co-produced by Phil. Reason why they used their alias? This of course is none other than an instrumental version of Marvin Gaye's Can I Get A Witness, which they'd covered earlier on.

Covers:

1993:

Lyres [along with the Stones' Stoned on the same cd]
