Artist: Igor Stravinsky
Author: Igor Stravinsky
Year: 1910

Ballet suite inspired by old Russian fairy tale The Firebird. Commissioned by choreographer Diaghilev for his Ballets Russes and created in the Opéra de Paris (1910). Its success landed Stravinsky two follow-up commissions: Petrouchka (1911) and Le Sacre du printemps (1913). In 1919 Stravinsky revised his Firebird Suite, so most recordings are based on that later version.
