Artist: Professor Longhair
Author: Goines/Wardell Quezergue
Label: Watch
Year: 1964
Part 1 is instrumental, Part 2 is sung and whistled by Earl King, who also wrote the lyrics. His mother got all the credits (Goines). Fess was too buzy arranging and adjusting the big band (15 musicians). He simply had no time to memorize any lyric line, so the actual lyricist Earl King was hired in. Plans to overdub Fess later on never materialized.
Covers:
Professor Longhair [re-recording; this time Fess sang, but according to Earl King, still without knowing the lyrics]
Dirty Dozen Brass Band [two years earlier live with Widespread Panic]
Lily Allen [sample of Fess Longhair's piano all under Knock 'em Out]
