Covers:
Petula Clark [as La Nuit n'en finit plus]
Searchers [n°1 UK; also in German as Tausend Nadelstiche]
Lionceaux [as La Nuit n'en finit plus]
Byrds [recycled Needles And Pins riff in I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better]
Peter Orloff [hit GER as Bettler und Prinz]
Axel Kaye [as La Nuit n'en finit plus]
Willy DeVille [produced by coauthor Nitzsche]
Producer Tony Hatch transformed this small hit (n°84 US) into a big one for The Searchers. His jingle-jangle production worked wonders, while the Byrds didn't even exist. The Searchers' 12-string Byrds sound came from Mike Pinder and John McNally playing their 6-string guitars simultaneously.
