Written for a radio documentary on herring fishing sailors called Singing The Fishing, based upon the oral testimony of lifelong herring fishers Sam Larner from Norfolk and Ronnie Bells from Yarmouth. Ewan needed 36 takes (produced by A.L. Lloyd) before he finally called it final and was pleasantly surprised when some Irish people were convinced to hear it as The Shores Of Erin.
