Louis Davids met beautiful 18 year old pianist and singer Margie Morris (real name; Margaret Whitefoot) while touring in England. Both wrote this song (he the lyrics, she the music). It became an immediate hit in Holland for Rotterdam comic Albert Bol. Davids wanted to marry Miss Morris, but his wife, Betsy Kokernoot, refused to divorce. Still, Morris moved to Amsterdam in 1913, came to live with Davids and that's when he started singing their song as Breng Mij Naar Amsterdam Terug, a sure guarantee to become a huge hit in the Jordaan neighborhood.
