Cocker's version was the first recorded, but Preston's was the first one released. Go-between (and Cocker's producer) was Mad Dog trumpet player Jim Price, who collaborated with Billy Preston on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and on the Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street.
