Albert King, Steve Cropper & Pops Staples [as Tupelo Part 1]

1985:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds [as Tupelo]

Nick Cave following Stax trio King-Cropper-Staples but turning it into something new without altering the basic idea: the flooding of Tupelo, MS around the time Elvis Presley was born. Cave's version situates both events on the very same day. It wasn't a deluge but a tornado to begin with, hard hitting Tupelo and Gainesville with a death toll of over 200. This same deadly tornado was subject of Elton Britt's 1936 Tornado.
