Artist: Rokes
Author: Mogol/Shel Shapiro
Label: ARC
Year: 1966

Means: Cry With Me. British band making a living in Italy as I Rokes supporting local star Rita Pavone. As The Rokes they also made the first recording as Let's Live For Today (RCA), after their first attempt (as Passing Thru Grey) was outvoted. That demo (accidently?) showed up on a French EP in '03, while the sleeve just spells Let's Live For Today.

Covers:

1966:

Skope [Dutch band as Be Mine Again]

1966:

Beat 4 [another Spanish translation as Llora Commigo]

1967:

Living Daylights [Newcastle band, the first to release it as Let's Live For Today]

1967:

Grass Roots [idem, hit US]

1967:

Rokes [also as Let's Live For Today, the first version recorded but only the third one released]

1967:

Four Tops [in German as Heute ist heut]

1983:

Lords Of The New Church [following the Grass Roots' version]

The Sha la la la la la chorus strongly reminds The Drifters' I Count The Tears for Atlantic in '60 with Ben E. King, also cut by the Searchers in '64 and Rosanne Cash in '95. Pure coïncidence according to Bobby Posner, but then Bobby's from I Rokes!
