Anne Sofie von Otter & Elvis Costello [with Benny Andersson on piano]

For 20 years Swedish Anne Sofie von Otter sang Bach, Berg, Berlioz, Brahms, Gluck, Grieg, Handel, Haydn, Mahler, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Weill and Wolf to perfection, then she made one record with Elvis Costello and her name was all over, the world outside Deutsche Grammophon that is. Anne Sofie von Otter Meets Elvis Costello was her pop record, for him it was just another step into eclectism. For once, this was not his initiative. It was his ex wife Cait who lured him into a performance of La Damnation de Faust featuring Anne Sofie. That's what triggered him. She used him more than he used her. Half of what survived the selection stage was written by Costello, the rest was covers where he also had his say. Only this little ditty from her compatriots' later lp The Visitors seemed to be Anne Sofie's choice.
