During the same session as Little Darling Pal Of Mine and Keep On The Sunny Side. Recorded only a few months after being discovered by Ralph Peer during the Bristol Sessions. These lyrics and probably the tune as well, come in great part from the nineteenth century song I'll Twine 'Mid The Ringlets (Joseph Webster/Maud Irving - 1859). Such repertoire was unheard of by the American public when the Carters introduced it. Went up to n°3 US (there were no C&W charts yet).
Woody Guthrie [as Reuben James]
Hank Thompson & Merle Travis [as tribute to the Carters]
Bob Dylan & The Band [Basement tape]
Maybelle Carter [on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Will The Circle Be Unbroken]
Robin & Linda Williams [as I'll Twine 'Mid The Ringlets with the original lyrics and title]
Reese Witherspoon [in Cash-Carter biopic Walk The Line]
The guitar licks of this piece (by Maybelle) were also influential.
