Artist: Radiators
Author: Philip Chevron
Label: Chiswick
Year: 1979

Song from their second lp Ghostown. Written by future Pogue Philip Chevron. B-side of their single Kitty Rickets (as Ballad Of The Faithful Departed); two years later reissued as their farewell single. Produced by Toni Visconti. Only part of The Pogues loved it (Shane & Terry), otherwise there'd be a Pogues version too, as the chorus comes straight out of the Hades part in James Joyce's Ulysses, where Leopold Bloom attends the funeral of Patrick Digman: "How many! said Mr. Bloom. All these here once walked round Dublin. Faithful departed. As you are now so once were we".

Covers:

1981:

Moving Hearts [feat. Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, Declan Sinott and Davy Spillane]

1983:

Christy Moore [as Faithful Departed]

1983:

Philip Chevron [author with Elvis Costello playing guitar, bass, organ and piano; B-side of The Captain And The Kings on Costello's own label IMP]
