Artist: Perez Prado
Author: Perez Prado
Label: RCA Mexicana/Discos Cafamo
Year: 1950
As instrumental. Re-issued on Rhino cd Mas Mambo Mania. A one year older version was hardly a piano improvisation, totally different from the tune inspiring Lou Bega's cover. That '49 version is re-issued on cd Kuba Mambo (Tumbao Cuban Classics). This early attempt is considered to match with the real mambo structure, more than any other; the '59 stereo version hardly counts for foxtrot.
Covers:
Perez Prado [this was the version sampled by Lou Bega; in Belgium it was used in the mid '80s as a radio tune for Gust De Coster's Belpop Kalender in Vrijaf (Radio 2)]
Lou Bega [in his own words and sampling Perez Prado's '59 version; n°3 US]
Weird Al Yankovic [as Bill Clinton pastiche Bimbo N°5]
Ome Henk [as Mambo No. 6, Dutch translation of Lou Bega's]
Bob The Builder [n°1 UK]
