Artist: Sweet Inspirations
Author: Dan Penn/Spooner Oldham
Label: Atlantic
Year: 1967
Hit R&B. Recorded in the American Studio in Memphis using a similar rhythm pattern as in Suspicious Minds, cut by the same studio crew on Elvis. Produced by Dan Penn while chief producer Tom Dowd took a break. Dan & Spooner Oldham were summoned to come up with something better than the songs Atlantic had sorted out for the girls. Spooner suggested: "What's wrong with Sweet Inspiration?" The whole thing was written and recorded in a nick of time.
Covers:
King Curtis [using the same backing track as the original]
Jackie DeShannon [released in 2018]
Barbra Streisand [in medley with Carole King's Where You Lead; hit US]
Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham [live]
Delaney Bramlett [on cd Sweet Inspiration]
JD Fox [alias Jan De Vos, ex drummer of The Machines]
