Sometimes considered to be older, with roots in Andalusia and even credited to Sebastián Yradier (1809-1865), composer of La Paloma and El Arreglito (see there), making it 'dominio publico'. American adaptations (1935) credit Jerry Castillo and G. Fernandez. This first(?) El Cielito Lindo, recorded in Mexico City by Jesús Abrego y Leopold Picazo, was credited to Pablo Santos who was 34 in 1905.
