WILLIE AND THE HAND JIVE

Artist: Johnny Otis Show
Author: Johnny Otis
Label: Capitol
Year: 1958

Top 10 US, top 5 R&B. With Earl Palmer on drums ripping off the Bo Diddley beat. Johnny once had Bo over for dinner and Bo said to him, half jokingly: "Hey motherfucker, what were you doin' takin' my song?" Then Johnny said: "Bo, you ever heard Hambone?" (see there). Also there's a similarity in rhythm with Mama Had A Chicken by Count Otis Matthew's West Oakland House Stompers where Johnny had been part of as a teenager.
