THIS SHOULD GO ON FOREVER

Artist: Rod Bernard
Author: Bernard Jolivette/J.D. Miller
Label: Jin
Year: 1958

Recorded in J.D. Miller's studio for Floyd Soileau's Jin label, who couldn't handle proper distribution and contacted Chess (Argo). Leonard Chess didn't like too much "sin" and "sinner" in the lyrics of the original backing track and ordered for a new one. So there's two Rod Bernard versions. The one on Argo ('59) became a hit.

Covers:

1959:

Guitar Gable [oldest recording (februari '57), but J.D. Miller wasn't convinced, until he witnessed Rod Bernard's cover riding the charts; finally released early '59 on Excello; vocal by King Karl (real name: Bernard Jolivette, coauthor)]

1959:

Doug Charles & The Boogie Kings

1961:

Wanda Jackson

1962:

Warren Storm

1981:

Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets

1999:

Lonnie Brooks-Long John Hunter-Phillip Walker

2000:

Tav Falco [as This Could Go On Forever]

John Broven needs a whole chapter for this song in his book South To Louisiana. Was banned for a while for the line "If it's a sin to really love you, Then a sinner I will be".
