In the summer of '54 songwriter and ex presidential candidate Stuart Hamblen had a traumatic experience while trecking through the Rocky Mountains. He found a decomposing body in an abandonned cabin. That's when he wrote this song, to wipe away the memory. Not exactly the key formula for sure hits, still This Ole House became n°1 twice. No better therapy than royalties rolling in. Ten years later, he also wrote a spoof version as This Ole House Has Got To Go, this time for a freeway.
