Larry Weiss considered writing a musical based upon his song and when Glen Campbell hit the charts beyond belief, Larry started shopping in Hollywood. The timing didn't seem right. A Rhinestone Cowboy next to an Urban Cowboy and a Midnight Cowboy along with an Electric Horseman would saturate that market segment considerably. Weiss persevered and found a willing ear at 20th Century Fox to set up a film project around the Rhinestone Cowboy theme, starring Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton. The film flopped and the song Rhinestone Cowboy wasn't even in it.
