In the first tv episode of Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter, based upon the life and times of this real Tennessee character (1786-1836), frontier hero, trapper and backwoods statesman who died in the battle of the Alamo, helping Texas win independence from Mexico. The 1955 film (Davy Crockett - King Of The Wild Fronteer) caused an unseen rush for beaver hats.
