Cockney comedian with a Cockney classic ("The apotheosis of clean, honest vulgarity"). About the eightest Henry in a row, just married to 'the widow next door'. Too much of an institution for the British to go for the Hermits' cover, which became a n°1 US. The original came out at the end of the year the British commemorated the 400th anniversary of this mindblowing king's coronation. Re-issued on cd The Old Bull And Bush (GEMM CD 9913) on Pavilion Records, crammed with a century old bunch of Music Hall stars.
Covers:
Joe Brown [as I'm Enery The Eight I Am; big influence on Herman's Hermits' version; imagine Joe witnessing their American success without any legal tool against it]
Herman's Hermits [n°1 US]
Patrick Swayze [in film Ghost]
