Rockabilly singer Kent Westberry wrote it as an harmonica instrumental for his friend Charlie McCoy but with no result. Songwriter Marijohn Wilkin wrote some lyrics for it and that's when Ann-Margret cut a version in Nashville, with McCoy on harmonica, the Jordanaires on backing vocals and Jerry Kennedy strumming the very first successful fuzz guitar lick in pop history.
