Introduced by the (unrecorded) George Olsen Orchestra at the New York Hotel Pennsylvania on Black Thursday (Oct. 24, 1929), teasing anyone who didn't jump out of his office window ruined. The effect inspired another ironic depression hit: We're In The Money. King & Love in WW I-film Chasing Rainbows, where it is used while troops first hear the armistice had been signed.
Covers:
Benny Meroff [also in film Chasing Rainbows]
Willy Derby [as Gelukkige Dagen]
Comedian Harmonists [as Wochenend und Sonnenschein]
Barbra Streisand [and again in 2018]
Became F.D. Roosevelt's New Deal theme song, the tune for the Lucky Strike Radio Show (the American hit parade during and right after WW II) and a brass band classic (like in film M.A.S.H.). Yellen & Ager also cowrote Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now) and Ain't She Sweet (see there).
