"Don't fear me", the death scene in opera Otello, based on Shakespeare's play Othello. Verdi wrote this opera inspired by Tamagno's tenor voice. Tamagno became the original Otello in 1887, and when he died in 1905, the whole world mourned never to be able to hear that voice again, ...if it wasn't through this recording, made two years before. Suddenly voices no longer disappeared forever post mortem. Tamagno's tenor defied mortality. His recordings were worshiped as a resurrection and shaped the recording industry to boot. No less.
