Artist: Buddy Johnson Orch.
Author: Guadalupe Cartiero/J. Mayo Williams
Label: Decca
Year: 1944
Released late '46. 16-piece houseband of the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem; vocal: Buddy Johnson himself, which was exceptional; normally his sister Ella sang. But in those days it wasn't that easy for a woman to sing: "you've got a fine brown frame", not even with her own brother chaperoning nearby. In May '47 Buddy presided a controversial "Miss Fine Brown Frame" contest.
Covers:
Ruth Brown [with Thad Jones]
Silvertones [as Real Fine Frame]
Lou Rawls & Dianne Reeves [admiring each other]
Johnny Nocturne Band [vocal: Kim Nalley]
Coauthor J. Mayo Williams, owner of the Harlem label, also wrote Corrine Corrina and Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee (see there).
