With the Killoran Trio. Roud #2356. Written to commemorate Father John Murphy's rebellion against British Rule in County Wexford in 1798. With his army of peasants toting pikes against muskets, two victories (Boolavogue and Enniscorthy) were followed by a crushing defeat at the Battle of Vinegar Hill, leading to the execution of Father John and the best part of his bystanders. The Irish are champions in celebrating defeats.
