Peter Kennedy recording (BBC), in '61 on LP Jack Of All Trades - The Folk Songs Of Britain Vol 3. Roud #1808. Introduced in Buckstone's play Green Bushes, first staged at ther Adelphi Theatre in London in 1845. The play defined the stereotype of the Irish Paddy while the song became a hit in music-hall.
