Spoken word recording telling the incredible story of Wilhelm Voigt (1849-1922), a petty thief and fabulist who managed to lure the entire militia of this German town, mis-using the Prusian befehl ist befehl ethos under Kaiser Wilhelm II, pretending he from now on was the Hauptmann to be reckoned with. A true story spreading through Germany and first filmed (silent) in 1906, which this oral 78 was supposed to help promote. There's a life-sized bronze statue of the Hauptmann near the entrance of Köpenick's (new spelling) historic city hall.
Covers:
Drafi Deutscher [hit GER as Der Hauptmann von Köpenick; music written by producer Christian Brühn]
Cocktail Trio [same music under De Jongens Uit Nigtevecht]
Normaal [as De Hoofdman Was Knuppeldik]
