About a murder case in North Carolina in 1807 triggering the collective imagination. Omie's murderer (and lover) Jonathan Lewis couldn't be convicted for failed evidence but confessed on his dying bed. A second ballad (as Naomi Wise) was recorded by Vernon Dalhart for Edison in 1925.
