Written for her, recorded at FAME, where three years earlier a version was cut on Jackie Weaver, saved up for the Rare & Unissued Gems From The FAME Vaults comp in 2011.

Rick Hall's original FAME partner Billy Sherrill, meanwhile top producer in Nashville, of course received a demo of this Dan Penn composition, liked the title and released his own Almost Persuaded on David Houston, a completely different song but a huge C&W hit in '66. Rick Hall was not amused and sent Etta James in the field with a cover of this David Houston version along with a cover of June Conquest's by Linda Carr, using an adapted title. Also, there's always been a religiously inspired Almost Persuaded by Philip Paul Bliss (1871), covered by The Louvin Brothers and Johnny Paycheck.
