Air Force hit unaffected by the musicians' strike of that year; The Song Spinners were a vocal group and sang it a cappella. That's exactly what happened to an airforce pilot and friend of the author, hit by the Germans, making a save return with one wing partly blown away. McHugh also wrote On The Sunny Side Of The Street, I'm In The Mood For Love and is sometimes credited for I Can't Give You Anything But Love (see there).
Covers:
Organ, The Dance Band & Me [organist Robinson Cleaver, Geraldo's Dance Band and singer Helen Clare]
Four Vagabonds [for Bluebird]
Ry Cooder [who knew it through Joseph Spence]
Vera Lynn [in medley on cd The Songs That Won World War 2]
