In 1994 Michael Cretu (Romanian producer of Enigma) was sued by this Munich choir for infringing its "right of personality" by distorting their voices in the samples used in both Sadeness (Part 1) and follow-up Mea Culpa (Part 2). While the source belonged technically to the public domain, a compensation was granted on the ground of 'moral rights', a notion clearly holier in Europe than in the US. Later the same Cretu was sued by members of the Taiwanese Ami tribe for using their voices in Enigma's Return To Innocence (top 5 US, UK & NL), again successfully. That's when Cretu called it quits using samples, period.
