Artist: Sis Cunningham
Author: Bill Cunningham/Agnes Cunningham
Label: Smithsonian
Year: 1961

On Broadside Ballads Vol. 9 and re-issued on The Best Of Broadside 1962-1988 box set. Song about the dust bowl drought in the Midwest, witnessed by Sis in the thirties. The Cunningham family lost their farm in Watongo, Oklahoma. She openly belonged and agitated for the communist party and became an easy target for blacklisting senators. If it wasn't for Woody Guthrie (where she toured with) and Pete Seeger, she would've been broke.

Covers:

1961:

Pete Seeger [had Sis as his secretary for a while]

2006:

Bruce Springsteen

2018:
