In cabaret Moulin Rouge in Montevideo. The first sentimental tango with a vocal story line (Tango canción). Contursi wrote new words to an existing Castriota tango (Lita), which was routine. Lyrics in Lunfardo, the street lingo of BsAs.

Pascual Contursi cowrote La Cumparsita (see there). In the early thirties Cuban singer Principe Cubano (real name: Angel Sanchez Carenno) sued both writers for copying music and words of his own composition Rosa, a song he was rewarded for in Paris in 1914.
