Wim Sonneveld's Nikkelen Nelis character is copied from the Rotterdam street musician Koperen Ko who busked on the Lijnbaan as a one-man-band in the fifties in exactly the same outfit. Lyricist Hugo Verhage (real name: Friso Wiegersma) also wrote Het Dorp (see: La Montagne) and Telkens Weer.
