Larry Weiss considered writing a musical based upon his song and when Glen Campbell hit the charts beyond belief, Larry started shopping in Hollywood. The timing didn't seem right since one Midnight Cowboy upon an Urban Cowboy and an Electric Horseman sort of saturated that market segment considerably. Weiss persevered and found a willing ear at 20th Century Fox to set up a film project around the Rhinestone Cowboy theme, starring Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton. The film flopped and the song Rhinestone Cowboy wasn't even in it.
