In fact credits belong to Earl 'Speedo' Simms from The Premiers, who became Otis' road manager. He knew Respect from earlier formations, sweard to cut it but he never did. Instead, Otis adapted it for himself and he lived to see how Aretha single-handedly changed it again (with a little help from Sam & Dave's When Something Is Wrong With My Baby).
