Artist: Martyn Wyndham-Read
Author: traditional
Label: Trader
Year: 1970

On his lp Ned Kelly & That Gang. Jim Jones is the story of an English prisoner sent to Australia in the 1820s. Once over there and suffering the harsh regime of a forced laborer in Bot'ny Bay, he expressed regrets not being executed instead. His only hope was to escape and join other outlaw "bush-rangers" like Ned Kelly and Jack Donahue, mentioned in the lyrics. Jim Jones' revenge would be sweet and the morality of the story (if ever there was any morality involved): he hoped England would regret they send him out to New South Wales.
