I'VE GOT DREAMS TO REMEMBER

Artist: Otis Redding
Author: Otis Redding/Zelma Redding
Label: Volt
Year: 1967

First take; lyrics: Mrs. Zelma Redding. She'd written a poem with that title while her husband was constantly touring. Otis wasn't impressed. He did write a fitting melody but hired a professional to re-write Zelma's lyrics. There is one take where he sings Zelma's original lyrics and that came out on cd It's Not Just Sentimental (Fantasy CDSXE 041), along with a first take on (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, where Otis fails to keep serious while imitating the gulls. Steve Cropper fixed it all on the master.
