Lazy, dirty, loud, unfaithful, handy and free; the devil's music personified and therefore the rightful Father of the Delta Blues. John Fogerty (Green River!) financed Charley's grave stone in Holly Ridge, MS.

Covers:

1995:

Bob Brozman

One lyric line here goes "I'm going where the Southern meets the Dog" repeated three times. These are exacly the same words W.C. Handy noted in his diary in 1903 while waiting on a train in Tutwiler, MS, observing a young black guitar player singing these words while producing intriguing slide effects. What if it was 16 year old Charley Patton in person he witnessed (born in 1887)?
