EARTH ANGEL (WILL YOU BE MINE)

Latest update on 25/02/2011

Artist: Penguins
Author: Curtis Williams
Label: Dootone
Year: 1954

With the author. Sounds so simple and no wonder: this is just the demo, first aired while the record wasn't even out. Massive and immediate reaction forced them to release the track just as it was. The foundation of Earth Angel (a simple piano and four voices) became the blueprint for Doowop. N°1 R&B. Sounds a bit similar to Dream Girl (Jesse Belvin & Marvin Phillips), Jessie Mae Robinson's Went To Your Wedding, The Hollywood Flames' I Know (with coauthors Gaynel Hodge and Curtis Williams in pre Penguins days) and in fact also Rodgers & Hart's Blue Moon.
