Artist: Enrico Caruso
Author: Ruggiero Leoncavallo
Label: G&T
Year: 1902
From Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci (1892, when it was introduced in Milan by Fiorello Giraud). One of the first arias Caruso recorded, for Fred Gaisberg in a private room of the Grand Hotel in Milan. The oldest millionseller on record (in the version for Victor in 1904). Until then records were mere toys, now they became collectable. Soon other singers followed Caruso's leading path.
Covers:
Jackie Wilson [as My Empty Arms]
Engelbert Humperdinck [as When There's No You]
Queen [same melody in It's A Hard Life]
