The success story of this Cajun novelty started in Placquemines, LA during a Solomon Burke concert, opened by Rockin' Sidney. The MC that night, Baton Rouge DJ E. Rodney Jones, made some comments on the song and the public reacted spontaneously. One of the patrons was Cleon Floyd, manager and uncle of King Floyd, who took 20 singles to New Orleans, soon needing even more. During Mardi Gras '85 My Toot Toot was all over New Orleans and by the time of Jazzfest '85 it was a regional hit. Then came all those cover versions, first Jean Knight (hit US) and Denise LaSalle (hit UK).
