Introduced it in the Plantation Club, New York, where Harry Akst was staff composer. The tune was already circulating as an instrumental dance piece for Fred Astaire, written by drummer Frankie Warshauer, who sued successfully, earning him royalties for the rest of his life. Harry Akst also wrote Am I Blue (another Ethel Waters original) and Baby Face (see there).
