Real name: Armenuhi Manoogian, Armenian singer/actress, daughter of wrestler 'The Terrible Turk'. Both of the authors were also Armenian, basing this song on an Armenian folk tune. First used in Saroyan's off-Broadway play The Son (1950). The amounts of exotic fruit displayed in the lyrics (to lure you in) makes part of the Armenian hospitality tradition. Bob Dylan in his Philosophy Of Modern Song (S&S '22) bluntly exposes it as a Little Red Riding Hood song.
