Top 20 GER. Carnival song, sometimes spelled Das Humba Täterä. Neger was a dekker from Mainz and a real character in the local carnival (Fassnacht) who frequently cut songs written by blind Toni Hämmerle, also from Mainz. Uraufführung in ARD tv show Mainz wie es singt und lacht. It also became a local football hymn, first for FC Mainz, later for the rest of Germany, including die Mannschaft.

Covers:

1964:

Billy Mo [real name: Prof. Dr. Peter Mico Joachim; Trinidadian who moved to Germany in '56 where he played swing trumpet with Bert Kaempfert and also made name as a Schlagersänger]

1964:

Three Jacksons [as Hoempa Hoempa]

1965:

Johnny Hoes [as En Van Je Hoempa with own lyrics]

1965:

Tony Bass [B-side of Dat Is Het Einde]

2006:

Tom Toupet [Après-ski version, the first one with the intro: Gib mir ein H, gib mir ein U...; gigantic football hymn in Germany; even die Mannschaft starts it up any time they celebrate a victory in front of their fans]

However! It can't be denied the melody substantially borrowed from the refrain in communist propaganda song Das Weltjugendlied, hymn of the FDJ (Freie Deutsche Jugend), written (in Russian) by Anatoli Nowikow and Lew Oschanin and introduced at the International Weltjugend Festival in Prague in the summer of 1947, attended by 17.000 young people from 71 countries. Walter Dehmel translated it in German, like he did with Bandiera Rossa. Some versions as such: Jugendchor Berlin and Bolschewistische Kurkapelle Schwarz Rot. There are even versions in Japanese and Spanish (as Himno de las Juventudes Mundiales).
